Take a leisurely drive down the coastal road to Stranraer and if you time it perfectly the huge resident swan population will be on or near the beach sunbathing and preening their feathers. What an absolute fantastic sight to spot on your first glimpse of the lovely town of Stranraer!

The drive itself takes you by some breathtaking views of the Firth of Clyde and there are many places to stop and stretch your legs and of course admire the stunning scenery.

If you are brave enough to feed the massive amount of swans, and they can be quite intimidating especially when they get up close and personal, don’t forget to take a nice photograph or two and then email us a copy and we will put it on the URsTV site!

Swans usually mate for life, though ‘divorce’ does sometimes occur, particularly following nesting failure. The number of eggs in each clutch ranges from three to eight and judging by the healthy population at Stranraer we suspect the more recent clutches were closer to eight than three.

When going on a day trip try and leave as early as you can and do not be focussed on arriving at your destination or you will miss out on some wonderful sights along the way.
