Sunset near Ailsa Craig

Ailsa Craig, a tiny island sitting in the Firth of Clyde, once part of an extinct volcano that might have been active about 500 million years ago, is now a local beauty spot and a haven for wild birds.

Uninhabited, with an unmanned lighthouse, the only way to get close is hiring a local fisherman or taking a scheduled tour from Girvan but the trip is well worth it.

And as the sun sets a little taste of paradise is glimpsed…
