The Swords of Dalriada
The Swords of Dalriada are a Scottish historical re-enactment group based in Ayrshire who perform at gala shows and various events all over Scotland. Dealing mainly with the Scottish Wars of Independence, the Viking invasions and Jacobite rebellion, they also do both living history and battle re-enactments. This means that not only do they recreate the battles that shaped Scotland but they also demonstrate what life was like back then. And they make it all seem like fun!
URsTV met up with Fred Ralston who runs the Swords at the Fenwick Gala Day earlier this year but we do seem to bump into them more and more often!
The group also has a large knowledge base in the history of the periods they cover and in the authenticity of the weapons and utensils they use. This also includes the authentic costumes to weaving and woodwork, feasting and gaming. In fact, the whole group is a mine of information – just ask!
Interested in taking part in medieval re-enactments? Join the Swords as they are always looking for new members. The group is based in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire and rehearse at the Grange Church Hall on Woodstock Street, 7-9pm on Friday nights.
