Selisha of the Forest

Magnificent

Magnificent

“Welcome stranger to our lands. What we have to share is yours to take. When we only have enough for half our herd, may you be welcome to the other half. Should we have almost nothing for our herd, may you be welcome to take all with all the blessings of our herd.”

The strange stallion stood rock still at Mesularia’s welcome, almost ready to commence to battle in the ways of old. His ears were cocked forward in readiness and his horn shined in the rays of the now full sun, glistening and fearsome. In one gesture, the strange stallion fell to one knee in total submissiveness, although he was clearly younger and three spans taller than Mesularia himself. This stallion could easily take this herd, although it would have been at great cost. Mesularia strode forward, “Arise my friend and join my herd for you would be truly welcome.”

Shocked gasps from the herd, especially from the male yearlings who were feeling eager to take over some young mares themselves. To bring a stranger into the herd such as he was unheard of.

Exquisite

Exquisite

The stallion stood up and stared at each member of the herd. His gaze fell on Selisha and he nodded slightly before moving on to the young colts by her side. Selisha felt an electric shock pulse through her whole body as she gazed longingly at the young stallion.

“My name is Farazan. I bid you welcome. I thank you for your invitation to join your herd. But I am a traveller. I am a teacher. I am a follower of the Way of the World and I have news of your friends and family outside your herd. Do you wish the telling of my tales or do you wish me to leave as I have found you. I am your humble servant”

Again, the strange stallion fell to one knee, but this time he faced the whole herd and not just Mesularia. Farazan’s presence was hypnotising and the power flowing from him won over the herd. For the first time since he had taken over this herd, Mesularia felt doubt creep into his soul as he watched his family welcome this stranger.

Graceful

Graceful

For the next few days, Farazan strode through the herd speaking to each member individually, asking questions and answering everyone’s fears about outside the herd. Other herds prospered but did not seek to gain more land by invading other herds. As Mesularia’s herd was the most northern herd Farazan had met, his was the first to employ the use of garments to cover their bodies from the cold.

Yet he noticed, at almost the highest point of the warm weather for this region, they still retained the use of their garments. Perhaps he could tell the other herds about this new idea and the other herds might be open to trade. Mesularia was always ready to hear about ways to improve his herd and somehow over those next few days Mesularia treated Farazan as a true friend of the herd. Selisha was astounded. Her mother was not.
