“How do you explain that Ochra himself the First Great Stallion actually spoke with you, Farazan?”
His gaze fell on the other stallion angrily, “Ochra himself is many herds removed from my own. He lived before this herd even left the First Original Herd. How can you speak so?”
Farazan faced Mesularia squarely and then reared onto his great hind legs, “Behold, I carry the mark of Ochra the First Great Stallion!”
The whole herd gasped in amazement as they all clearly saw the star which was the mark of the direct descendents of Ochra the First Great Stallion. They all knew that only the direct descendents of Ochra galloped with Ochra and His Herd in their dreams. Only these true descendents knew The Truth.
But still there were shouts of denial from the crowd. Only Selisha stood apart, completely still. All this time her mother Shanara stood quietly at the side of her life mate. Only she saw the look on her daughter’s face. Even from this distance, Shanara could see the light had returned to the daughter of her heart. Selisha’s Bright Eyes had returned and Shanara felt a tear fall slowly from her eye onto her golden horn. The tear became part of her horn and Shanara knew The Truth, as did her daughter.
Something stirred within the crowd of the herd. Slowly, it parted and a path was made through the centre of the herd. Selisha approached the podium upon which her father and mother stood with Farazan who now watched her closely. The whispers among the crowd ceased as Selisha stopped and folded her two front legs and touched her horn to the earth below her parents.
Mesularia, the Great Stallion of the Herd, beckoned proudly for Selisha to join them. She stood before her father and mother and then faced her herd, her family and for the first time she noticed she was not sad of the heart anymore.
“There are those among you, herd of my heart, who know what Farazan speaks is The Truth. You know you must follow your own path, as must I.”
At that moment Selisha faced her parents knowing she would not see them for a very long time.
