New Wilkinson Store Opens in Kilmarnock
At last! Some good news for the people of Kilmarnock. Wilkinson opened its newest store taking over the old Tesco site in Fowlds Street.
Provost Stephanie Young cut the ribbon to announce the official opening of the store alongside new Manager, Claire Brewster and Stuart Mitchell, Wilkinson’s Chief Executive. This new store not only provides over 70 new jobs for the area but a very welcome donation to Combat Stress, which is Provost Stephanie Young’s chosen charity which has now reached over £22,000! Fantastic!
As well as being a family owned company, Wilkinson have not only embraced green technology into all their new stores but have recognised the need to change with the times and have launched their on-line store, WilkinsonPlus. In fact, this may well be the secret of their success!
In 1930, James Kemsey Wilkinson opened his first store and although he sadly passed away in 1997, his grand-daughters Karin Swann and Lisa Wilkinson joined the Wilkinson board of directors in 2004. Now there are more than 130 stores with Kilmarnock being the latest addition to this distinguished line with new stores in Surrey and Kent scheduled to open later this year.
As Wilkinson continue to grow and prosper so too will the people of Kilmarnock as they receive this huge boost to the local economy which should encourage other potential investors and employers into this beautiful area of Scotland.
Nutz the Squirrel, the official mascot of Kilmarnock Football Club, entertained the huge crowds which turned up and of course the opening would not be Scottish without the sound of the bagpipes, courtesy of piper, Brian Mulhearn!
